More than five million children in rural China do not attend school because they cannot afford the basic school fees. In 2002, 38 Chinese children between the ages of 8 and 11 were killed in an explosion while putting together fireworks to help pay for their schooling. In response, Free The Children began their work in China where they have built 10 primary schools to date which continue to provide basic education to over 2,500 children in need. In support of this effort, some 30 artists, creators and designers from Toronto and Montreal came together for the first CHILDLIKE INaSENSE benefit concert to celebrate children through the arts and focus on their right to an education.
